Breast reduction surgery is an operation aiming to reduce large breasts and adjusting them respectively to the rest of the body. The surgery may be performed in case of considerable breast asymmetry, when one side is significantly larger than the other one. Selection of the operating technique partially depends on the amount of breast tissue, which is to be removed and on skin quality. The most commonly utilized techniques are incisions combining one or more of the following techniques:
Around the areola (dark skin surrounding the nipple)
Vertically down from the areola to the breast fold
Horizontally in breast fold
Excessive breast tissue and skin are removed, and the whole breast is reshaped and lifted up, together with the nipple and areola, to obtain a more youthful look. Incisions are sutured in a manner reducing scars to minimum. The procedure is conducted in an operating room, under general anaesthesia, with participation of anaesthesiological and surgical staff. The procedure lasts about 3-4 hours. The patient is required to stay in the clinic for 2-4 days.
