Between 15th and 17th October 2015, the 15th Convention of the Polish Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery took place in Sopot.
The convention was divided into separate thematic sections that concerned developments and problems in various surgical fields. The lectures during the sessions dealt with: microsurgery, head and neck surgery, jaw and face surgery, aesthetic surgery, breast surgery, bariatric surgery, oncological surgery, burns, etc.
In the session ”Breast surgery”, doc. Artur Śliwiński talked about „Advantages and disadvantages of a postponed breast reconstruction”.

Breast augmentation remains one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures apart from liposuction and eyelid surgery.
Breast augmentation with implants is a surgical procedure aimed at increasing the size and/or enhancing the shape of breasts. The procedure also offers an opportunity to decrease a small difference in the size of breasts.
Since 1961 when the first breast augmentation surgery with liquid silicon was performed by Cronin and Genowa, the procedure has been considerably modified. The technique as well as the structure and shape of the breast implants have changed. Now, the fifth generation of implants is being used, which are filled with thickened gel with a fixed, gelatinous consistence, which does not flow out even if the implant is damaged. The surface of the implants is not smooth but porous, covered with the so-called texture.
